Job Description

Summary:

Incumbent is heavily involved in the decisions related to systems administration including evaluating feasibility and possible impact on organizational units. Performs a variety of full performance level professional and complex technical duties as needed to maintain day to day  computer system operations. Duties are divided into three primary areas of emphasis: systems programming, database administration, and systems administration.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Manages and coordinates activities of assigned projects. Develops and implements a project plan and monitors and evaluates project work flow to assure compliance with project plan.
  2. Resolves general technical issues.
  3. Manages critical enterprise security systems for resource security related to internal and external systems and data.
  4. Directs computer operations on systems related tasks.
  5. Schedules system maintenance tasks and suggests problem resolutions.
  6. Develops and provides for user coordination and training, coordinates user involvement in project plan, provides useable documentation.
  7. Performs systems programming for the Midrange and Server operating systems and all associated program products.
  8. Maintains systems software integrity; develops and maintains backup and recovery procedures to assure system protection in the event of hardware/software failure. Assures privacy and security for systems software.  Measures hardware and software performance and statistics.    
  9. Analyzes and modifies software parameters to interface with related software products. 
  10. Performs troubleshooting related to software problems. Assesses systems software conditions and determines appropriate action as needed to complete timely repairs and minimize costly down time of the system; tests procedural changes and implements as needed to expedite return to service and operational status of the system. 
  11. Communicates system failure information to vendor then implements and coordinates resolution with vendor and computer operations staff.
  12. Coordinates a variety of hardware and software platforms to maintain connectivity.
  13. Writes and maintains special purpose systems software such as user exits and programming tools.
  14. Performs capacity planning on all hardware and software products running in our data centers, makes recommendations for future upgrades.
  15. Create procedures and processes for software support.
  16. Performs, plans, or manages the installation, maintenance and tuning of systems software, hardware, and database management systems, performs file conversions, integrity and security assurance tests, acceptance tests, etc.
  17. Maintains database integrity; develops and maintains backup and recovery procedures to assure database file protection in the event of hardware/software failure. Assures privacy and security for database software. Measures database usage and performance.
  18. Effectively uses vendor supplied database utilities for database change requests. Communicates changes in content and structure of data base to effected users 
  19. Provides definition and maintenance of user profile and login scripts, directory, subdirectory and file security.
  20. Installs, maintains and supports technical and end-user applications.
  21. Writes implementation plans for software installs, policies on how to use software, and technical communications to inform users about system software changes and enhancements.
  22. Records system tasks, tips and techniques, and problem description and resolution in our problem/change management system.
  23. Analyzes and implements disaster recovery procedures for software supported.
  24. Plans, directs and maintains the primary data center infrastructure.
  25. Maintains the Disaster Recovery infrastructure.
  26. Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  27. Maintains strict confidentiality.
  28. Performs other related duties as required.

Required Experience

Education and Experience

Bachelor Degree in data processing, computer science, information technology or other computer related field; and four (4) years of progressively responsible computer systems administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Preference will be given to candidates with administration experience in: 

  • Microsoft Exchange and Email 
  • Microsoft Entra ID
  • Microsoft 365
  • Active Directory
  • Certificate management

 

Specific experience in data base management, hardware and software systems design and programming preferred.

 

CISCO certification, Microsoft certifications, Vmware certifications, HP/Unix certifications preferred.

Work Environment

Incumbent performs in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks require a variety of physical activities which do not generally involve muscular strain, but do require activities related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing and seeing. Requires occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity required to perform essential functions.
